From “The Bay Boyz” to “The Beautiful & Damned”
December 14, 2017
For an artist that came from the west side and joined a group called “The Bay Boyz,” G-eazy was the artist that pushed me to like hip-hop music. His lyrics are always relatable, and you can tell he writes from personal experiences. His new album is due to release on December 15th but he has released six songs so far as a preview of the album. These songs have come out around a week apart, and I like all of them so far.
The first song dropped was called “The Plan.” This song has the rhythm of his newer music and a powerful meaning behind it that makes the song. In my opinion, it reminds me of destiny and fate and how the world has a plan for each individual.
The next song released was the main song on the album called “The Beautiful & Damned.” This song took a twist from the normal lyrics. It never used the title of the song within it, therefore giving the song some mystery.
The next song, “Summer in December,” consisted of an old style of G-eazy. It reminded me of something I would’ve heard back in 2015, and that, to me, is going to make the whole album original. He had the creative idea of releasing songs with both his old and new styles.
The fourth song that dropped was my favorite so far. It is called “Him and I,” and this song gave off a romantic feel, especially with the music video. It showed his relationship between him and his girlfriend, Halsey, while on a trip to New York City.
“Sober,” being his next song, gave off a more relaxed feel. This song featured Charlie Puth so it was slower than his other songs. This song had a good meaning about regret and karma.
The last song he released before the whole album is another one of my favorites. This one was called “Love is Gone.” I thought this song had an amazing meaning. It talked about world issues going on today and it almost reminded me of “Where is the Love” by Black Eyed Peas. It talked about the world and how there seems to be no feeling of love anymore and how the world is full of hate.
I think that this new album will be the best one he’s made so far. It mixes his newer style with his old style, and every song so far has a positive meaning along with a satisfying beat that people can listen to. With this album, he will also be releasing a short film which ties in all of his music into one big meaning. I highly recommend listening to these few songs before listening to his whole album and check out the trailer to the film.
