On Thursday, June 1 the PIHS Outdoor Club traveled to Millinocket for their annual rafting trip. The club worked with Northern Outdoors. Over 75 students and chaperones attended the trip on the blazing hot day.

Many students attended the trip last year with an air temperature of about 60 degrees fahrenheit. This year it was a scorcher with an air temperature of 90+ degrees. “The highlight of the day was not having to wear a wetsuit because it was so nice,” Cassidy Carlisle ’25 said. With one break along the river for lunch students had to gear up for the waterfall and rapids that waited ahead.

Many passengers found themselves outside of the raft swimming throughout the day, whether it was in the rapids or having a good brawl with other students. “The scariest part is not being able to catch your breath and all the rocks banging up against you when you’re trying to get back on the raft,” Carlisle said. Despite being scared, it didn’t stop the students from having a good time. “It’s not so scary to make you not want to do it again,” Carlisle said.
