2018 Trend
Birkenstocks
May 11, 2018
2018 is back with another trend.
At PIHS, the warm weather means it’s time to put away the Bean boots, and dig out the Birks!
In 1964 Konrad Birkenstock’s grandson Karl invented a shoe that used Konrad’s idea by making a cork sole that was shaped like a footprint. But, they were made popular in the United States by Margaret Fraser. They are also popular because of their walking comfortability.
Birkenstocks are a German brand of sandals. They are used to help with support of the arch and can help with plantar fasciitis. The cork and rubber soles on the inside can help take away heel pain as well. The sandal itself somewhat takes the shape of the wearer’s foot.
School nurse Shelby Miller says, “Birkenstocks seem good with support. They are very important for support in the foot as far as being a nurse because you’re on your feet a lot.”
Alexis Michaud ’20 says, “They are very comfortable. Also, very easy to walk in and they don’t fall off of your feet.” Birkenstocks have a buckled strap, across the top of the foot.
They have a distinguishable style. Some may argue that they are the ugliest shoe alive and some may say they look great. Miller says,“They are very nice looking. There are different styles. My daughter has a few pairs and she absolutely loves them.”
Melissa Embelton’20 gives her opinion on Birkenstocks. She says, “They’re really cute and I like the buckle. I love how they just slip on and off.
Michaud says, “I love them because they have a toe hole and they really do keep your foot in the right place.”
Embelton gives some fashion advice for girls who want to wear Birkenstocks. She says, “You should wear light colors when wearing them. A floral print outfit, khaki shorts, or cropped jeans. That would be so adorable.”
Birkenstocks are a great unisex sandal to suit your foot’s needs. They’ll be snug, and you will be rockin’ that spring/summer look for your outfit of choice.
