The wind and temperatures were looking to challenge the players in an already tough game, but the Wildcats did not waste any time getting the game moving.

Presque Isle won the kick off and cleared it quickly up the field, which led to the first shot on goal in the first 45 seconds of the half. Under two minutes into the game, senior Rhylee Kinney scored off of a rebound that came to her off a corner kick. Minutes later, with 29:34 to go in the first half, fellow senior Meg Casavant scored an unassisted goal coming out on top from a mix of players inside the 18 fighting for the ball. Presque Isle won six of eight punts and outshot Fort Kent 6-3, controlling the ball most of the first half.

Presque Isle had a slow start coming into the second half barely getting the ball into the opposing 18. A minute in, sophomore Olivia Kolhbacher was fouled on a breakaway in the 18 off of a fight for a ball. Jenna Sargent shot a great shot but the goalie made an even better diving save.

Early on, Presque Isle put one person on offense and put the rest of the players on defense to secure the win. It seemed like Fort Kent was playing pass with Presque Isle in their 18.

Later in half the speed picked up again and so did the wind. The cold challenged players even more than before dropping down to 38°F.

Fort Kent controlled most of the second half but couldn’t break the Wildcats’ defense. Both teams had four shots on goal in the final 40 but Presque Isle came out on top, beating the undefeated Warriors 2-0.

“I played sweeper,” said senior Rhylee Kinney. “We had our four defenders and then I was all the way back, and we only had one striker instead of two. We played a lot more as a team. We weren’t yelling at each other as much, and we passed better.”
