The first hockey game of the year for Presque Isle meant excitement for the Wildcat fans watching at home. As the game started, Houlton/Hodgdon won the faceoff. They pushed for an early goal but the Wildcats defense held together showing an early dominance.

The first couple minutes of the period made it clear Presque Isle had extreme intensity. They were getting to the puck, making passes, and taking shot after shot. The Houlton/Hodgdon goalie eventually allowed a goal with Dawson Kinney starting off the night at 18:49. This goal set the tone for the game. As it went on, it was goal after goal for the Wildcats. With ten minutes left in the first period the game seemed all but over.

With the first half coming to an end, it was 4-0 in Presque Isle’s favor. During the intermission it was said many times by the broadcaster that there will only be two 23 minute periods. This is due to COVID guidelines. Another new change is the fact that teams don’t switch ends, but instead play the same direction for both halves.

Within less than a minute of the start of the second period, Jonah Roy scored for the Wildcats (22:08). Houlton/Hodgdon was able to score one goal at 17:10. As the game went on, the Wildcats continued to score. The goal of the night, if not the goal of the season, was Dawson Kinney’s at 13:48. This goal was between the legs from the goal line. “It was the best goal I’ve ever seen in high school hockey,” said Cameron Levasseur ‘21.

As the game neared the end it was 13-1 Presque Isle. Roy finished with 8 points, 2 goals and 6 assists.
