Spending time with family and friends is one of the best parts about Christmas. To make it even more fun you could go to the many events and activities planned this holiday season.

Who doesn’t love putting Christmas lights on the tree and drinking hot cocoa while it’s snowing out?

In central Aroostook county this Christmas season there are over 100 festivities to participate in.

The Star City Spirit of Christmas website run by Kimberly Smith, has all of those activities compiled into one place. She was inspired to create the website when reading an article about Maine’s most festive town and was surprised at how it wasn’t Central Aroostook county because of how many events our community puts on. The website is to promote holiday festivities around central Aroostook.

Friday, December 4 – Saturday, December 5:

You can go to the Festival of Trees at the Aroostook Centre Mall. At 9:00 am to 8:00 pm there will be beautifully decorated trees that you can just look at, or you can bid on them. All of the benefits go to St. Apollonia Dental Clinic. Posing with all the trees would make for great holiday pictures to commemorate this year. Winning a tree and the gifts that come with it – even better.

Saturday, December 4:

In Easton from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm at Easton Elementary there is the annual Christmas craft fair selling homemade goods. In Presque Isle there is another craft fair at the Aroostook Centre Mall from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. That is another great option to buy unique presents for the holidays. With a trip to both of these craft fairs you can knock out your holiday shopping and get unique gifts to make Christmas even more special.

From 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm you can also go see the holiday light parade that starts at UMPI and travels along Maine street to North Street. This is the 32nd light parade which, as of release, there are 42 floats, with one of the participants being Fuel ME Nutrition. The categories they are judging for are parade champion, best business, best non-profit, best faith based, and best general float. Having your own competition of the floats with these categories, or even your own categories, would be really fun to do with family and friends.

Friday, December 10:

Glass With Class on Main Street is hosting a painting, glass, resin art workshop where you paint on a canvas and add glass and other decorations for a unique holiday gift or decoration. It will be at 5:30 with a Grinch-themed ornament. Even if you aren’t a crafty person, it would be really cool to brag about having made something with glass. There is limited space which is something to be aware of as well as $55 to participate. You could also go to the Victorian Christmas at the Estey House. Did anyone else hear about the ring story when learning about Presque Isle history? You can go see Vera Estey’s house, the person the ring story is about, and see it with festive decorations. It’s from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at 16 Third Street, Presque Isle and $10 per person at the door. You can also see the Estey House on the 11th.

Saturday, December 11 – Sunday, December 12:

The Nutcracker Reimagined will be put on by Moon Dance Studios. That will be at the Caribou Performing Arts Center at 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Saturday and 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday. In the show there are some fellow classmates so make sure and come watch them.
