Prior to September 8, junior students need to make a decision regarding the PSATs, which are scheduled for October 24. The forms can be found in the guidance office.
What are these tests for? To put it simply, the SAT is a standardized college admissions test. Much like the NWEA assessment, it tests students’ proficiency in math, reading and writing. While SATs analyze your college readiness, PSATs help you prepare for the real SAT experience. It’s important to note, however, that PSAT scores don’t determine college entrance.
“I would recommend that juniors consider taking the PSAT, because it’s very good prep for if you choose to take the SAT at the end of this year,” Allison Reed, Guidance Director, said.
Not only do PSATs provide students preparation, but there are other benefits. “Also, there are national scholarships attached to the test. If you score high enough, there is significant money attached to doing well on the PSAT,” Reed said.
