Hockey Night in Maine
The Wildcat hockey team faced off against the Messalonskee Eagles on Saturday, Dec. 9. The Wildcats lost, but will play Hampden Academy this Saturday, Dec. 16. “We mirrored that first loss from last year, but we can build upon it,” Charlie Peers ’25 said.

On Saturday, December 9, the Wildcat hockey team traveled to Messalonskee. The last time these two teams met was last year in the playoffs when the Wildcats lost 3-2. Unfortunately, the Wildcats couldn’t come close, losing this game 8-1. Although they suffered a loss they realized they are in the same position as last year.

The ‘Cats took this game as a learning experience. “Everyone has to play their part, no one played perfect Saturday,” Oliver Woollard ’26 said. This gave them goals and things to work on as the season gets rolling. “We want to win the north this year,” team captain Charlie Peers ’25 said.

Their next game is against Hampden this Saturday, December 16, at home. “Hampden is supposed to be the second best team. They have two really solid forward lines, solid defense,” Woollard said. The team believes they have something that can bring them together off the ice. “A lot of the guys hang out off of the rink, watching college games or just hanging out in general off the ice,” Peers said.

The players said a big part of team bonding is the bus rides. “We have a long bus ride everywhere we go. We go further than anyone, which gives us chances to bond,” Woollard said. This team may be young and new, but they aren’t new to each other. “We’ve played together for close to 10-13 years, just that alone makes us closer as a group,” Peers said. The captain pushed the fact that they are young but skilled, “We have a lot of underclassmen with talent that play a huge role on the team,” Peers said.

The game against Hampden will be at 1:15 pm, this Saturday. The JV game will be played at 3 pm.
