Long or short fashion choices at the Winter Ball

With the Winter Ball happening this past Friday, we saw lots of different fashion choices. Although there wasn’t a huge turnout, it seems like shorter dresses are becoming more popular.

One of the pros for a short dress is that it is easier to move in, so it’s more comfortable for dances. Another pro is that shorter dresses can be on the cheaper side so they are easier to find in a pinch. “A pro? They definitely make my legs look better,” Neve O’Donnell ’27 said.

However, there are also a few cons for short dresses. “A con for short dresses? They can end up being too short and show too much,” O’Donnell said. Another con is that you will be much colder in a short dress.

Now let’s look at the pros and cons of longer dresses.

One pro is that there is the possibility of having your entire leg covered if you don’t get a slit in the dress. This makes for a much warmer night. “You can wear Hey Dudes and no one will even notice,” Bailey Davenport ’25 said.

Then we have the cons. They tend to be a little more expensive than shorter dresses. You also may have to get taller heels if your dress ends up being too long and you don’t want to trip over it.
