The Staff Picks of the Week continues to get close and personal with our new additions to The Anchor staff in the 2023-24 school year. Joining us today is sophomore Maddy Brazier, who’s covered sports-related and news content on our website alongside with our last staff guest Melodi Craig.
As the fall soccer season comes to an end, Maddy has been enjoying her time of relaxation, “I do really miss the team and our time at the matches though,” she confessed. Maddy’s school life lately has also been quite colorful with the sophomores’ win of the Pep Rally Jug, and the annual college/career fair that helped Maddy map out what her future might look like. “I talked to the advisor of UMFK, who introduced me to their marine biology program,” Maddy said. “He mentioned going into conservation sites to do research, which was cool. I’ve been drawn to this subject ever since I heard my great-great-grandpa’s stories as a warden.” She went on to talk about the importance of pursuing what you love as a career. I was impressed by her maturity on this topic that still troubles many high school students.
Maddy’s music preference these days is balanced between Zach Bryan and Olivia Rodrigo. She finds the latter’s new punk pop album quite enjoyable. She’s also started watching the classic police comedy “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” lately. “I stayed up to 11:30 last night binging the show because of how funny Jake is,” Maddy commented excitedly.
Lastly, we discussed what she has gained from her first two months as a proper Anchor staff writer. “What I appreciate is that my curiosity of what’s always been going on in the yearbook room was fulfilled by actually getting involved.” She’s excited to be able to write more sports story for the rest of the school year.
Maddy’s open mind, curiosity and determination were shown throughout our conversation, and I’m glad that she is able to bring these energies to period four, as well as to everyone else in the school by sharing her perspective on The Anchor.
