Raise your pinkies. The Rotary Club visits Presque Isle high school on October 24. Every World Polio Day, high school students donate to help eradicate polio. Juniors Bobbi Guerrette, Bailey Davenport, Hannah Ousby and Carlee Wood show off their purple pinkies with Rotarian Jamie Guerrette.

On October 24, World Polio Day, the Presque Isle Rotary Club set up in Presque Isle high school’s cafeteria. Students were given the option to donate $1 (or optional amount) to raise money for polio awareness.

This fundraiser gives students the chance to help in the eradication of polio. After donating, the Rotary Club paints the participant’s pinky purple.

According to the Rotary Club of Presque Isle’s website, “Rotary International has achieved a 99 percent reduction of polio worldwide.” Beginning in 1985, Rotary has immunized over 2.5 billion children in 122 countries.

To spread the word, anytime someone asks why your pinky is purple, you tell them about eradicating polio. “My pinky was purple because it helps support a good cause,” Bobbi Guerrette ’25.
