On Thursday, April 25 students wore orange in honor of a young Zippel student who passed away this spring. “I think this shows how we can come together as a community,” Maddy Patterson ’26 said. “Even though we fight sometimes, we come together for good causes.”
Why is it important for high school students to support the younger grades and participate in these events? “I think it’s important not only for schools, but for communities to support the kids.” assistant principal Mr. Greaves said.
According to school social worker, Mrs. Pinette, this Zippel student’s name was Wesley Coty. He passed away on March 25, 2024. He was in 5th grade and was only 11 years old. Wesley always wore his orange jacket and lime green hat. His hobbies included a love for snakes and anything with a motor.
There was also a truck parade held on April 25 in memory of Wesley since he loved anything with a motor. The parade started at 11 near Maysville Street. It continued past our high school where students could go outside and watch. A few of our students were also involved in the parade. “It was a fun experience to be part of. There was a lot of support and an estimated 250 trucks,” Jonas Elliot ’26 said. “It was nice to see that much support for Wes.”
